Ukrainian MFA: "Hamas must lay down its arms and immediately release all hostages"

Ukrainian MFA:
Andriy Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on August 3, 2025, made a tough statement on Hamas, demanding the immediate release of all Israeli hostages and aid to civilians in Gaza. Why Ukraine’s words are important to the Jewish community of Israel — in the NAnews overview.

Ukraine’s MFA and Hamas: why condemning the abuse of Israelis sounds so loud

Briefly about the main thing: what exactly did Sybiha say and why is it important

On August 3, 2025, when the world seemed to be used to the constant background of war and reports of hostages, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha published on social networks a sharp condemnation of Hamas for the abuse of Israeli prisoners.
The inhuman treatment of Israeli hostages by Hamas deserves the strongest condemnation.
People in Gaza should not continue to suffer because of Hamas’ heinous crimes. Hamas must lay down its arms and immediately release all hostages.
At the same time, international humanitarian aid must be delivered to Gaza’s civilians as soon as possible and in full. A complete ceasefire must remain a top priority.”, — wrote the head of the MFA (NAnews translation).

Ukraine MFA: "Hamas must lay down its arms and immediately release all hostages"
This phrase, at first glance, is just a diplomatic wording. But let’s look deeper: why now, and why in exactly these words?
When words mean more: human pain through diplomatic formulas
At the end of July and the beginning of August, two stories shocked Israeli society and all the families waiting for their loved ones to return. First — the publication of a video with the hostage Roma Breslavsky. His relatives, seeing fragments of the recording, allowed the publication so that the whole world could see — this is not a political dispute, but a real tragedy.
“In the footage, he looks exhausted, his voice trembles, and every word is hard to utter,” — says Roma’s mother.
This video was filmed a few days before the terrorists cut off contact.
A few days later — a new shock: a video appears online with another hostage, Evytar David. The man is digging a grave for himself, powerless, in despair.
Such footage cannot be erased from memory, no matter the political sympathies.
Ukraine’s sharp reaction: why this is more than just words
Ukraine’s MFA, which itself has faced for many years the issues of abducted, missing, abuse, and humanitarian disasters, did not limit itself to formal sympathy.
Sybiha not only strongly condemned Hamas, but also called for the following actions:
- immediate release of all hostages;
- ending armed confrontation;
- urgent provision of humanitarian support to the civilians of Gaza.
Why for Jews in Israel Ukraine’s words are not just empty sound
The Jewish community of Israel, thousands of immigrants from Ukraine, their families and friends follow every statement from Kyiv. It’s no secret: the fates of the two peoples are closely intertwined not only by history but also by real human pain — both in the war in Ukraine and in Israeli families waiting for loved ones to return from captivity.
NAnews — Israel News regularly tells about these parallels:
- Ukraine knows the price of hostage-taking firsthand: dozens of Ukrainians, including Jews, have been taken captive in occupied territories.
- Israel cares about each of its own — and does not wait, but demands: “Bring our people back!”
That is why Sybiha’s position is perceived in Israel as support not only in words, but also in action.
Humanitarian aid — a bridge between conflicts
In the minister’s statement, special attention is paid to: it is urgently necessary to provide Gaza’s civilians with everything they need — no matter what.
Kyiv understands perfectly well: the suffering of ordinary people cannot be used as a tool of pressure. Ukraine does not justify terror, but also does not forget about the fate of children, women, and the elderly — this is what brings us closer together, despite the distance.
International context: what is behind Ukraine’s words?
The reaction of Ukraine’s MFA not only responds to the pain of Israelis, but also shows: the country strives to be not just part of the West, but a real ally in the fight for the values of humanism.
- Ukraine synchronizes its statements with the EU, the USA, and Israel, strengthening a common front against terror.
- Support for humanitarian missions and the unequivocal condemnation of Hamas brings Kyiv into the ranks of countries for which the pain of others is not foreign.
The strong condemnation of Hamas, the open call for the release of hostages, and the emphasis on humanitarian support make Ukraine’s position truly alive and close to Israel. Mutual trust between peoples is built on honesty, humanity, and the ability to support each other in trouble. https://nikk.agency/en/ukrainian-mfa/
