SAVING LIVES WITHOUT REGRET
The series "Shpital" is a dramatic story that united Israeli and Ukrainian medics in the fight for human lives. The premiere took place back in December 2023 on the "1+1 Ukraine" channel. The plot unfolds in an improvised field hospital in the Lviv region, where doctors from Ukraine, Israel, Poland, and the USA voluntarily leave their homes to save the wounded.
How Many Episodes and When They Aired
The series consists of 16 episodes, which aired from December 11, 2023, to January 4, 2024. Each episode reveals new stories and fates based on real events.
Key Characters and Actors
In the series, viewers meet a truly international team of doctors and volunteers:

- Yosyp Finfilfain — a veterinarian from Odessa with Jewish humor. Played by Serhiy Kiyashko.

This team, despite national differences, acts as a single whole, saving lives.
Music and Visuals
Composers Pavlo Krakhmalov and Ihor Melnychuk from the group “Braty Hadiukiny” created music that conveys the entire spectrum of emotions. Filming took place in Kyiv at Victoria Film Studios, and the hospital pavilion of 453 square meters was built over almost a month. An old ultrasound machine was even purchased for filming, which will continue to be used after the project’s completion.
Israeli Volunteer Doctors in Ukraine
Israeli volunteer doctors played a huge role in providing aid during Russian aggression. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, hundreds of Israeli medics have come to Ukraine to support the healthcare system and treat the wounded. They provided emergency care in border areas, worked in frontline zones like Bakhmut and Sumy region, and set up temporary reception points at borders with Moldova, Romania, and Poland.
One of the key missions was FRIDA Ukraine, founded by Israeli Roman Goldman. Thanks to this initiative, over 72,000 people received consultations, and 15,700 patients were saved.
The Field Hospital “Kohav Meir” (“Shining Star”)
Israel became the first country to send its own field hospital to Ukraine. In the spring of 2022, in Mostyska, Lviv region, they deployed the “Kohav Meir” hospital, which included emergency care, maternity, pediatric, and therapeutic units, as well as laboratories and an x-ray office. In just a month and a half of work, the hospital treated over 6,000 patients. Despite its success, the project had to close due to limited funding, but Israeli volunteer doctors continue to help Ukrainians across the country.
International Cooperation and Challenges
The writers of “Shpital” emphasize that such field hospitals really did exist in the early months of the war, and Israel’s help played a crucial role. Thanks to international support, Ukrainian hospitals were relieved, and thousands of lives were saved.
NAnews - Israel News notes that Israeli volunteer doctors became a real bridge between our peoples. This project is not just a series, but a reminder that human life is above all.
